The Honolulu Beer Guide

honolulu beer guide

I will admit I rarely partake in beer anymore. We don’t get along now. But I swear if Sam Adams brings back their Blackberry Witbier, I will throw a parade and a block party. I digress, apologies.

I asked all my friends that do enjoy a good beer for their favorite places to grab a pint with friends. They delivered. You could cross-check these establishments with Yelp all in the sake of research, but I did that for you too. I will not give actual beer recommendations because everyone has their own favorite at each place.

Honolulu Beerworks

Not only does this place brew their own delicious beer, but they also have a small but solid menu. Popular dishes include the Beer-made Mac & Cheese, Smokin Ahi Dip, Bavarian Soft Pretzels & the Pork Sliders. There is trivia night on Tuesdays and they always have classic board games on hand. Please note that there is metered street parking and a parking garage 2 blocks away.

BREW’d Craft Pub

I have been to Brew’d, folks! So here’s the deal: if you are a not-particular-carnivore that enjoys unique bar food this is the place for you. It’s usually hit or miss if I can eat something on the menu because it rotates to reflect the seasonal on tap beers. Read: not vegetarian- barely pescatarian-friendly. My friends do love it though because they can always try something new. It has a great atmosphere, cozy lighting and service is great. They do have a solid lineup of cocktails if you’re not in the mood for a pint.

Pint + Jigger

This place is always hopping. Beer drinkers and cocktail sippers alike can enjoy a serious variety of drinks. It’s a bit daunting – in a good way. This isn’t a bar where the drinks are good and the food is meh. The food here is yummy & you can either order a bunch of apps to share with your friends or stick with an entree. I usually order the Hulk BLT (I skip the bacon and sub avocado). They used fried green tomatoes instead of the usual sliced ones. The appetizers we’ve ordered have been tasty as well.

Aloha Beer Company

The thing to do here is order a beer flight. They have so many unique and tasty beers that it’s hard to pick just one. They have a good selection of sandwiches, salads and boards so everyone can happily find something to eat. This place is very “Instagrammable” – bonus points for thoughtful design. They do have free parking upstairs, which is a huge deal in Kakaako.

Maui Brewing Company

As always, any restaurant in Waikiki has such a mixed bag of reviews. I’ll usually wait until friends try it before I make the trek into Waikiki. One of my good friends likes to come here to people watch while enjoying a pint at the bar. MBC also has foosball tables and shuffle board if you want to start a game with your pals. Something I definitely wouldn’t have expected to hear: they make a good breakfast.
